Merlyn's Birthday Celebration

Merlyn had a great day on her birthday. After the big kids got on the bus, I didn't have daycare kids until 2:30, so the girls and I spent a nice day together. Merlyn got a few phone calls, which she loves, and she and Berkleigh got to take a really long bath. Bryan came home from work early to spend time with us in the afternoon. Bryan's Uncle Denis, Aunt DeeDee, and cousin Jesse arrived Thursday from Indiana to spend a few days with Faye and Jerry. The whole crew came over after dinner for cake and ice cream.

I made Merlyn a frog pond cake to comply with her chocolate and frog cake requests. I think she liked it!

Merlyn has been really trying to ride Carter and Myles' bikes lately. She props them up against the play yard fence and sits on them since they don't have training wheels. We decided to get her her own bike for her birthday. She was very excited about it, especially since she got to ride it in the house.






DeeDee and Jesse had never met Berkleigh, so it was nice to see them again and show them what we've been doing on our house. They gave Merlyn an ice cream maker that can be used anywhere (even camping) and we are excited to try it out. Denis is a good photographer and I enjoyed showing him some pictures I've been taking.

Merlyn has been wanting to sleep with her ceiling light off for the past couple weeks. First she likes to read for a little while, and so then one of us has to go back upstairs to turn her light off because she doesn't want to get out of bed. Faye and Jerry gave her a bedside lamp that she can turn off herself when she's done reading. Merlyn loves it, and so do Bryan and I! At bedtime the kids and I all got into Merlyn's bed to read by the light of her new lamp. We ended the day with our traditional birthday book, Dr. Seuss' "Happy Birthday to You".
